Missions

Mission Project:  Door of Faith Orphanage, Tijuana, Mexico

Purpose of the Commission on Missions:

To serve needy communities and individuals locally and worldwide.

Organization

The Chairperson organizes the actions of the members and advises the Church Council regarding activities. Commission members attend meetings to discuss projects and to create pamphlets and signs. They bake and sell goods, assist in the donut hour after each church service, transport food and gifts to the community and to the Door of Faith Orphanage, La Mission, Mexico.

Projects

The United Methodist Church Extension in Mexico

Joining other churches in The United Methodist California-Pacific Conference, our church contributes to the work of evangelism and mission of the Methodist Church of Mexico primarily in the states of Baja California and Sonora. Projects range from scholarships to help educate church leaders, supplements to the salaries of pastors, and assistance with church property.

Toberman Settlement House

For many years, our church has supported this mission outreach to the disadvantaged in San Pedro by participating on its board of directors, helping with its new building project, supporting its annual Cinco De Mayo fundraiser, donating clothing to its Thrift Shop, and purchasing staples for Christmas baskets.

Door of Faith Orphanage - La Mission, Mexico (DOF)

For the boys and girls in this Tijuana, Mexico orphanage, church members contribute clothing, supplies, and food, fill and deliver Easter baskets, and purchase and deliver Christmas gifts  boys and girls and  orphanage workers.  During the year, money is collected from the coffee hour service.  In June, a peanut butter drive is organized. Go to Door of Faith Christmas for more information.

Roosevelt Elementary School

To help the families of children attending Roosevelt Elementary School in a depressed area of Long Beach, church members donate Christmas food baskets and gifts.

Campus Ministry at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB)

For this campus ministry, our church provides monetary support and spiritual support to the campus chaplain.

Missionary Support

Our congregation surrounds three missionaries with love and prayer and participates financially in their missions with annual contributions. In return, our congregation grows in understanding the people, culture, traditions, and religious life that form the context in which our mission workers serve. Our church supports missionaries:
