Commission on Church and Society Responsibilities: Habitat for Humanity Joining other United Methodist churches in this effort to fund and build a house in a Long Beach inner-city neighborhood, our church is raising $40,000.00. Funds donated recycle every 15 years as the new owner of the house pays back the cost, and the money becomes available again to build another house. Strength for the Journey An annual Quiche Breakfast raises funds for this United Methodist Conference camp that gives hope and help to the victims of AIDS. Blanket Sunday One Sunday every February, the congregation contributes funds or blankets for the Church World Service’s annual blanket drive. Bread for the World Our congregation participates in an annual "Offering of Letters" as part of the worship service experience. The hunger-related issue described in the letters usually gets passed by the U. S. Congress, such as the Africa: Seeds of Hope issue adopted in 2001. CROP Walk Every October, the Long Beach Area Hunger Walk raises money for CROP, sponsored by the South Coast Ecumenical Council, with 25 percent of the funds returned for use in designated local hunger-relief agencies. Walkers from our church gather monetary pledges based on miles walked on a Long Beach route.
